Looking For Information On Alex The African Grey Parrot?

You need to type in www.AlexFoundation.org into your internet browser, instead of .com to reach the official website of Alex The African Grey Parrot.

Most African Grey Parrots have amazing speaking abilities but Alex The Grey was truly remarkable.  He had the ability to identify all sorts of objects by their names, shapes and colors, and was the most advanced example of proving that animals can actually comprehend the English language.

Alex even had the ability to comprehend a "zero like" concept, could categorize things as  similar or different from each other, and was still learning new words up until the last day he died.

Sadly Alex the African Grey died at the age of 31 on September 6, 2007 and he will be sadly missed.

And we wish Dr. Pepperberg and her team the best as they move forward with their continued studies of African Grey Parrots and their learning abilities.

Alex has left a significant imprint into our perception of what parrot brains are truly capable of.  And Dr. Pepperber has stated on her website that she will be continuing her research with two other African Grey Parrots that she's already been working with.

If you feel compelled to support this research, please feel free to make  a donation in Alex The Grey's memory to The Alex Foundation, c/o Dr. Irene Pepperberg, Department of Psychology/MS-062, 415 South Street, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA 02454.
